Christian Relaunch

About our Founder

I am Vid Auty, the founder of Christian Relaunch.

In 1953 I was born in Wakefield (Yorkshire, England) but have spent most of my adult life in Nottingham (England).

In 1971 I became a professing Christian. I think I became a real one, though my understanding of what that entailed was very different from what it is now. I began to associate with Evangelicals.

In 1979 I came to understand that what was at stake in my growing differences with Evangelicalism was the Gospel itself, and became convinced that my vocation in life was to promote real Christianity, though my awareness of the range of heresies involved was at that time minimal.

In 1994, after years of fruitlessly urging Evangelicals to treat Christianity as more than a leisure pursuit, I ceased associating with them.

Since then I have tried actively to promote real Christianity. This site is the current attempt.

Hitherto these efforts have yielded little visible result, but giving up was never an option.

Woe to me if I fail to proclaim the Gospel.

Paul of Tarsus, 1st Corinthians 9:16 (c.55 CE)

"First they ignore you. Then they ridicule you. And then they attack you and want to burn you. And then they build monuments to you."

Nicholas Klein, in a 1918 speech. (Often misattributed to Mohandas Gandhi. Klein was right about how change can occur, though wrong in his evaluations of some of those changes.)

Between bursts of active promotion I made preparations, in the following forms.

* Accumulating understanding. (Studying.)

* Accumulating means. (Earning money for my "war chest".)

* Accumulating written output. (Building this site and its predecessors.)

The last of those has taken me far too long. C. S. Lewis's quip about J. R. R. Tolkien also fits me.

"His standard of self-criticism was high and the mere suggestion of publication usually set him upon a revision."

I am a hale stale pale male straight rich Christian. Today's seven deadly sins.
